The purpose of the hearing is to review current issues related to offshore oil and gas development including the Department of the Interior’s recent five year planning announcements and the accident in the Gulf of Mexico involving the offshore oil rig Deepwater Horizon.  Sen. Bernie Sanders is a member of the Energy and Natural Resources Committee.

The Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, of which Sanders is also a member, will hold a seperate hearing on the economic and environmental impact of the Gulf coast oil spill.  The hearing will take place on Tuesday, May 11 at 2:30 p.m. in the committee hearing room, 406 Dirksen Senate Office Building.  More information and live web streaming are available here.
