Broadband Meeting
What: Broadband Meeting to
Discuss the Stimulus Award to Deploy Wireless Broadband in Vermont, with US
Senator Bernie Sanders and USDA Rural Utilities Service Administrator Jonathan
Adelstein
When: Saturday, September 25, 10:00 AM
Where: Vermont Technical College (Judd Hall) Randolph
Vermont recently received $172 million in federal grants and loans to expand and improve high-speed broadband service.
The focus of this meeting, the first of several on broadband, will be to discuss the plan by Vermont Telephone Company (VTel) to provide wireless, high-speed broadband to residents in all of Vermont’s unserved areas. VTel’s project will also provide exceptionally fast service to major institutions such as hospitals, schools, libraries, and municipal buildings.
As you might imagine, the potential impact of the VTel project is enormous. It will help improve our schools and hospitals, and it will allow Vermont businesses to be more economically competitive in the 21st century. It will also provide access for thousands of Vermonters who are currently cut off from valuable information and communication opportunities. Further, it will stimulate our economy by creating hundreds of new jobs during the development phase.
At the meeting, Vermonters will have the opportunity to learn more about the project, and to ask questions about what broadband services will be offered, when they will be offered, and what they will cost. Michel Guite, President of VTel, and Jonathan Adelstein, Administrator of USDA’s Rural Utilities Service, will discuss the projects and will be available to answer questions. I hope you will be able to join me for this meeting.
