Hendrik Hertzberg is a New Yorker senior editor and staff writer. He joined the magazine in 1969 as a Talk of the Town reporter, left to become a speechwriter for President Jimmy Carter, served as editor of The New Republic, and returned to The New Yorker in 1992. He is the author of “Politics: Observations & Arguments” and “¡Obámanos!: The Birth of a New Political Era.”
