The Vermont Institute on the Caribbean coordinates an exchange program between Little League baseball players from the Dominican Republic and Vermont. Sen. Sanders, who initiated a sister city program when he was mayor of Burlington, is strong supporter. Some of the Dominican coaches stopped by Sanders’ office recently to thank him and the Senator’s constituent advocate, Kelley Goulette, for her help in resolving visa issues for the Dominican players. Dominican coach and former minor league player, Aleurys Lopez, delivered a plaque of recognition to Ms. Goulette on July 8, 2011.
Sen. Sanders met in his Capitol Hill office with Mayor Nowandish of Kabul, Afghanistan, regarding the Kabul City Initiative, a project providing technical assistance to the Kabul City government to create effective, democratic, accountable municipal governance.
