President Obama made a surprise stop in Iraq on the way home from an eight-day trip to Europe. During the new president's first foreign trip outside North America, he secured commitments at a G-20 summit in London for greater regulation of financial institutions, built consensus within the North Atlantic Treaty Organization for a reworked strategy in Afghanistan and Pakistan, sought in Turkey to repair relations with Muslims, and developed stronger ties with foreign leaders. "It is really inspiring to see how people throughout the world are responding to him," Sanders said of the new American president. Sanders commended Obama's willingness to confront challenges. "Let's deal with terrorism, let's deal with global warming, let's deal with this really terrible economic crisis that we face," the senator said.
