Bush Farm Bill Veto Against Vermont's Interests

WASHINGTON, May 21 - Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) made the following statement regarding President Bush's veto on May 21, 2008 of the 2008 farm bill.

"This farm bill helps dairy farmers in Vermont and across the country. It also is a major step forward in addressing the growing crisis of hunger in America. At a time when food and fuel and feed prices are skyrocketing, it is beyond belief that that the president would veto assistance to families struggling to put food on the table and for family farmers dealing with escalating energy and feed costs. I hope and expect that, in a bipartisan manner, we will override the veto."
