Sen. Bernie Sanders wrote a letter to Comcast Corp. to lay out some of the many concerns Vermont consumers have shared with him lately about the actions of the cable giant, and to propose changes to its practices. In his letter, Sanders said, "When people pay the same amount of money to receive less service, that is a rate hike, plain and simple." Comcast recently reduced the number of channels available on some of its package lineups while maintaining the same prices. Sanders has received more than 250 complaints recently from Vermonters concerning the practices of Comcast. Sanders will host a town meeting this Thursday at 7 p.m. in Rutland's City Hall to discuss recent rate hikes and the questionable customer service of Comcast in Vermont.

Sanders also addressed Comcast's mandate that many consumers lease a digital box from the company in order to view the channels the customer currently can access. This decision by the company happens at the same time as an unrelated government-mandated transition to digital signals for broadcast television.
