How is the economic climate today effecting you? That's the question posed in our latest poll. In Vermont, the current jobless rate is threatening to climb further. The rate currently sits at 7 percent, the highest faced by Green Mountain State workers and employers since 1992. According to a survey by the Vermont Business Roundtable, 40 percent of the CEOs at the state's top employers anticipate cutting jobs in the next six months. Sen. Bernie Sanders will hold two town meetings in the next week to discuss the economic crisis. On Saturday, he will be in St. Johnsbury. Next Thursday, he will be joined by Congressman Welch and Professor William Black, a recent guest on PBS's Bill Moyer's Journal, at a town meeting in Montpelier. Vermont Business Roundtable President Lisa Ventriss said in a statement about their survey, "Interestingly, our members' responses appear to be very similar to last quarter, which suggests that employers are in a ‘wait and see' frame of mind. With economic stimulus monies and the summer tourism season on the horizon, employers are not ready to commit themselves until they see further developments. "
