Release: Senate Approves Economic Recovery Measure

WASHINGTON, February 10 – The Senate today voted 61 to 37 for an $838 billion economic recovery measure. Senator Bernie Sanders voted for the bill and made the following statement:

“The United States today is facing the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression.  Millions of our fellow citizens are losing their jobs, their homes, their savings, their health insurance and their ability to send their kids to college.  The time to act is now.

“This stimulus bill is not perfect, but it will go a long way in Vermont and throughout the country to rebuild our crumbling infrastructure, move us to energy independence and sustainable energy, protect working families hurt by this recession and, most importantly, create millions of good-paying jobs.”
