Two Vermont National Guard Soldiers Killed in Afghanistan

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) issued the following statement after the Vermont National Guard announced today that Sgt. Tristan Southworth, 21, of Walden, Vt., and Sgt. Steven Deluzio, 25, of Glastonbury, Conn. - both assigned to the 172nd Mountain Infantry Regiment based at Jericho, Vt.  - were killed Sunday in a firefight in Afghanistan:

"This is a double dose of tragedy for the Vermont National Guard. Our thoughts and prayers are with both soldiers' loved ones and for the safe return home of the men and women of the Vermont National Guard completing their tour of duty in Afghanistan."
