Memorial Day

"From our earliest days as a state, brave Vermonters have answered our country's call to duty. On Memorial Day, we remember and honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice," said Senator Bernie Sanders.  This Memorial Day is marked by the dedication of a new monument in Bennington. It honors Vermont veterans from World War I, World War II, Korea, Vietnam, the Persian Gulf War, Iraq and Afghanistan. “It’s really an awesome site to visit,” said John Miner, president of Vietnam Veterans of America-Bennington Chapter No. 601. With support from the senator, similar projects are underway in Concord, Derby and Weathersfield.  “All of us have come to associate Memorial Day with barbeques and parades, but we should keep in mind that the true purpose of this solemn occasion is to honor those men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country," Sanders said.
