A Fair and Balanced Budget
As the Senate today began to debate a budget resolution, Sen. Bernie Sanders proposed an amendment to shut down offshore tax havens that profitable corporations have used to evade $100 billion a year in U.S. income taxes.
Sanders, a member of the Senate Budget Committee, has advocated raising revenue by closing tax loopholes to bring down deficits rather than balancing the budget on the backs of seniors, disabled veterans, the sick, the poor and the young.
A Senate vote on Sanders’ amendment was expected later this week.
