A Health Care Model

A Harvard professor who helped design Taiwan's health care system was chosen Monday as the man who will design three models to remake Vermont's health care system.  Dr. William Hsiao, professor of economics at the Harvard School of Public Health, was chosen to lead an effort that could bring about dramatic changes in how Vermont handles health care.  One day earlier this year, the senator told MSNBC’s Dylan Ratigan, “I just left my office.  The ambassador from Taiwan was there. In 1995, they instituted a program which now guarantees health care for all of their people, far more cost-effectively than we do in this country, through basically a Medicare-for-all single-payer approach. Long term, that's where we've got to go.”  Sen. Sanders recently sent his top legislative aide to Taiwan to learn more about the Taiwanese national health insurance system, a successful model of providing affordable, comprehensive care.
