Bernie on 'Washington Journal'
Sen. Bernie Sanders will discuss taxes, deficits, jobs and the economy during a live appearance at 8:30 a.m. EDT Thursday on C-SPAN’s Washington Journal. One likely topic is a Senate Republican plan to permanently extend expiring income tax breaks for the wealthy. The plan, according to The Washington Post, would cost $4 trillion over the next decade and nearly double projected deficits. The proposal would extend tax breaks for the richest 2 percent of Americans, those in households with more than $250,000 in annual income. “At a time when we have a $13 trillion dollar national debt, huge unmet needs and a growing gap between the very rich and everyone else, it is a very dumb idea to give $700 billion in tax breaks to the wealthiest people in our country," Sen. Sanders said. "In my view, it makes much more sense to use some of that money for deficit reduction and some to invest in our crumbling infrastructure so that we can create millions of decent-paying jobs.”
