Day Two
Day Two
On the second day of a government shutdown, there was a growing consensus that the way to restore services was to let the full House vote on a Senate-passed budget resolution and restore services for millions of Americans. “A significant majority of members in the House of Representatives today is prepared to end the
shutdown if the speaker will give them the opportunity,” Sen. Bernie Sanders said in a Senate speech. In calling for an up-or-down vote, Sanders pointed to growing divisions among Republicans. He also cosponsored legislation to make up for lost wages of furloughed workers.
