End of an Era in Egypt
Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak said on Tuesday he would step down after a successor is elected this fall. The announcement came amid massive street protests. News agencies estimated that a million or more people rallied across the country earlier in the day clamoring for the ouster of the former general who ruled for 30 years. President Obama had urged Mubarak not to run, effectively withdrawing support for America’s closest Arab ally.
