Senator Bernie Sanders, Assistant Energy Secretary Cathy Zoi and a panel of Vermont experts and homeowners on Saturday will discuss ways that geothermal energy can help move Vermont and the rest of America to a more sustainable and energy-independent future. Secretary Zoi talked about the potential for geothermal energy on Tuesday during a guest appearance on WDEV’s Mark Johnson Show. “Sen. Sanders has a great vision for the nation and Vermont,” she said. Geothermal energy systems pays for themselves with savings on power bills over the course of seven to 10 years, she said of the renewable energy source that can efficiently keep homes and businesses warm in the winter and cool in the summer. “Geothermal energy has a very significant potential here in Vermont and in the rest of the country,” Sanders told the Green Mountain edition of The Burlington Free Press.
