Health Care Law Saves Billions

Legislation proposed by House Republicans to repeal a new health care law would add $230 billion to the federal debt by 2021, according to an analysis released Thursday. The report by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office indicated that the deficit would go up nearly a quarter of a trillion dollars over the next 10 years. More people buying their own health care would see health care costs increase, premiums for employer-sponsored insurance would go up, and 32 million Americans would lose coverage, according to the report.

In addition to worsening deficits, the proposal would put insurance companies back in charge of health care, take away tax cuts for small businesses, take away free preventive screenings for diseases such as breast cancer, allow insurance companies to once again deny coverage to children with a preexisting condition and saddle seniors who rely on the Medicare prescription drug program with more out-of-pocket expenses.
