Honoring Dr. King
Vermonters gathered Sunday to honor the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. The civil rights leader also was a crusader for economic justice. Hundreds packed Burlington's Unitarian Church for the observance of the King holiday. The Rev. Al Sharpton was the keynote speaker at the event where Sen. Bernie Sanders also was recognized for his work on civil rights and economic justice. The senator on Tuesday will join students at the H.O. Wheeler Integrated Arts Academy in Burlington to unveil a statue of King. Burlington High School teacher Chris Sharp, a former student at H.O. Wheeler, created the statue.
