Irene

The first order of business for Sen. Bernie Sanders after the Senate reconvened on Tuesday was to tell fellow senators about the devastation in Vermont. "This disaster will go down in history as one of the very worst natural disasters in the history of the state of Vermont," he said of the flood damage left behind after Hurricane Irene's remnants struck a week ago Sunday. He thanked emergency rescue teams, the Vermont National Guard and guard units from other states, the police officers and firefighters and local officials  who all, he said. "have done an extraordinary job."
