An annual open enrollment period ends Wednesday for Medicare beneficiaries to sign up for discounts on brand-name drugs and free preventive care. Some 2.6 million people with Medicare have saved more than $1.5 billion on their prescriptions under the health care reform law. In Vermont, 5,178 people with Medicare have saved $3.5 million, about $674 on average per person. Medicare also recently announced that the deductible will be $22 lower in 2012 and Medicare Advantage premiums are projected to drop 4 percent on average in 2012.
People with Medicare can now review their drug and health plan coverage options for 2012 as part of the annual Medicare Open Enrollment Period.
