Sanders Statement on Iran Nuclear Agreement
Iran and a group of six nations led by the United States reached an historic accord on Tuesday to significantly limit Iran’s ability to produce a nuclear weapon in return for lifting international oil and financial sanctions. The agreement culminates 20 months of negotiations on a nuclear deal with Iran that President Barack Obama had long sought.
Following the deal's announcement, Sen. Bernie Sanders congratulated "President Obama, Secretary Kerry and the leaders of other major nations for producing a comprehensive agreement to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon."
Sanders added, "This is a victory for diplomacy over saber-rattling and could keep the United States from being drawn into another never-ending war in the Middle East. I look forward to learning more about the complex details of this agreement to make sure that it is effective and strong.”
