Senate Nears Vote on Jobs Bill

The Senate was scheduled to vote tonight on President Obama's $447 billion jobs bill. "We have to create millions of jobs as soon as possible," Sen. Bernie Sanders told radio host Ed Schultz in a midday interview. Sanders said he would have preferred a bolder plan to put more money into roads and bridges and railroads and schools.  He applauded Senate leaders for coming up with a surtax on millionaires to help pay for the jobs bill. Sanders proposed a similar measure earlier this year.  For his part, the president said lawmakers face "a moment of truth" in dealing with the troubled U.S. economy. Speaking at a union electricians' training center in Pittsburgh, Pa., the president said "today is the day when every American will find out exactly where their senator stands on this jobs bill."
