Sizing Up the State of the Union

Sen. Bernie Sanders on Wednesday looked back at President Obama’s fifth State of the Union address. He applauded Obama for acting to make federal contractors pay workers at least $10.10 an hour, something Sanders and other senators had urged the White House to do.  But there were important issues that were not addressed. Sanders would have liked to hear the president call for a constitutional amendment to undo the Supreme Court ruling that let corporations and wealthy individuals bankroll elections, he said in an interview with radio host Ed Schultz. And Schultz noted that the president didn’t talk about Republican threats to let the government default on its bills.
