The Great Recession

The economy has been slowly recovering from the recession. As of Friday when the Labor Department reported that 217,000 jobs were created in May, the U.S. has regained the 8.7 million jobs lost during the recession. “The American people don’t feel it,” Sen. Bernie Sanders told radio host Ed Schultz. “The truth is that many of the new jobs that are being created are low-wage jobs and they are part-time jobs” that pay too little to sustain even a modest living standard, the senator said. He renewed his call for Congress to create millions of good-paying jobs by rebuilding America’s crumbling infrastructure and developing green energy sources like wind and solar power.
