The Koch Brothers Are Winning
Bernie is in Manchester, N.H. today at the invitation of St. Anselm College for a town meeting on the collapse of the American middle class and the growing gap in wealth and income in the United States. In the same town on the same day, the billionaire brothers Charles and David Koch are bankrolling a day-long "freedom summit" featuring Sen. Ted Cruz, Donald Trump and an all-star cast of other Tea Party favorites. It's not widely known, but before using the family fortune to launch the Tea Party, David Koch was the 1980 Libertarian Party candidate for Vice President. Here's the bad news: the extreme, anti-middle-class agenda proposed by Koch in 1980, when he got only 1 percent of the vote, has become mainstream for Republicans today: abolish Medicare and Medicaid, repeal Social Security, put the Postal Service out of business, eliminate campaign funding limits, etc. "If the middle class of this country is to survive, the right-wing extremist agenda of the Koch brothers must be soundly defeated," Bernie said.
