Vermont Edition

Senator Bernie Sanders on Wednesday was Vermont Public Radio's guest on Vermont Edition. Topics that listeners brought up during the statewide call-in program ranged from the fate of health care legislation "We have got to move quickly and get this thing done"  to budget deficits  "We have to take a hard look at every agency of government. We've done a lot of research on Pentagon spending" to President Obama's effort to achieve bipartisanship in Washington "You cannot continue to reach out if all you're going to get his your hand slapped." The senator also was asked about his proposed legislation to put solar units on 10 million homes and businesses,  student loans, the fate of the troubled Vermont Yankee nuclear power plant, and Saturday's visit to Vermont by U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack to discuss the dairy crisis, the state's pioneering sustainable agriculture movement, and other issues.
