What a Joke
The Senate on Wednesday continued to debate a constitutional amendment to overturn a Supreme Court ruling that let millionaires and billionaires bankroll campaigns and buy elections. The country overwhelmingly supports the amendment with 80 percent approval in one recent poll. The idea is even backed by Republicans around the country – but not in Washington. The Republican Party is the main beneficiary of the ruling and the gusher of money. In fact, the Republican Party chairman wants to get rid of all campaign funding limits.
Some of the arguments against the amendment have been laughable. Sen. Ted Cruz said “Saturday Night Live” creator Lorne Michaels could be imprisoned if the amendment passes for making fun of politicians. “Sounds like he is on Saturday Night Live. It’s a very funny skit,” Sanders said on MSNBC. He called Cruz’s argument “preposterous” and “another scare tactic.”
