President Obama said Friday that he would require intelligence agencies to obtain permission from a secret court before tapping into a vast trove of telephone data. The president also directed America's intelligence agencies to stop spying on friendly international leaders. Sen. Bernie Sanders has been a leading critic of the massive surveillance operations by the NSA. Interviewed afterward on CNN, Sanders said there was a need to balance Americans’ constitutional right against unreasonable searches with the need to thoroughly investigate instances when intelligence or law enforcement agencies have a reasonable suspicion of a potential terrorist plot.
