MEDIA ADVISORY: Sanders to Hold In-Person Press Conference on Funding to Establish Family Center in the Northeast Kingdom

BURLINGTON, Vt., April 11 – Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) on Tuesday, April 12 will hold an in-person press conference in Newport to discuss funding he secured through the Fiscal Year 2022 Congressionally Directed Spending process to establish the North Country Family Center. A central hub for coordinated services for 2,700 students and their families, the new family center will provide services to any family living in the towns served by the North Country Supervisory Union, including those experiencing homelessness.

Sanders will also meet with the North Country Supervisory Union Superintendent John Castle, incoming Superintendent Elaine Collins, and with students at the North Country High School and Career Center.

The funding, $458,000, to establish the family center is part of the more than $38 million in Congressional Directed Spending requests that Sanders secured on behalf of over 50 Vermont initiatives for the 2022 Fiscal Year. These projects will strengthen Vermont communities and meet Vermonters’ needs across a wide range of issues, from child care and sustainable energy, to health care, dental care, wastewater infrastructure, housing, education, and services for veterans and military personnel.
