Graphic promoting Sen. Sanders' Youth Creative Writing Contest

Senator Sanders invites all Vermont students in Kindergarten through 12th grade to participate in a Youth Creative Writing Contest by submitting a piece of original writing for consideration. The contest is an opportunity for young people to express themselves creatively and for all of us to celebrate the talent of young Vermonters in every corner of our state.

Students can submit a piece of writing, 1-20 pages, in any form, on any subject. Short stories, novel chapters, personal narratives, excerpts of play scripts and screenplays, and creative nonfiction pieces are all welcome. The piece should be an original piece of work by the author, done without assistance of artificial intelligence.

A volunteer panel of educators and writers will judge the submissions and select finalists from each grade year (K-12). The winning pieces will be entered into the Congressional Record – the official archive of the U.S. Congress – and compiled into a literary magazine.

Deadline: Students must submit their writing pieces by May 25, 2025
