One hundred years ago, women fought for the right to vote, and won. Today, as we celebrate this important milestone, we also recognize that women of color were intentionally excluded from this victory, despite their heroic efforts to help achieve it.

The American people are hurting. Millions are unemployed and cannot pay their rent or put food on the table. I shouldn’t have to say this, but here’s a message to President Trump, Senator McConnell and my Republican colleagues: the American people desperately needed you to act months ago, before critical assistance lapsed.

When Vermont schools closed in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic, school meal programs quickly transitioned to finding new ways of providing free meals to children 18 and under. In summer months, free and nutritious meals are still available at hundreds of locations throughout Vermont, thanks to the federally-funded Vermont Summer Meals Program.

In 1910 black farmers made up 14% of all farmers. Today they make up fewer than 2% and own less than 1% land in rural America. Land access for all is a social justice issue. We need to support black farmers so that they have the resources they need to keep and grow their farms and land-based businesses.
