WASHINGTON (WCAX) – Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders is fighting to raise wages for 22 million of the nation’s lowest-paid workers.

The federal minimum wage of $7.25 an hour hasn’t gone up in 15 years.

Sanders and more than 100 members of Congress want to raise it to $17 an hour by 2030.

Studies show one in four Americans makes less than $30,000 a year in an economy already struggling with inflation.

“Let us be very clear. Nobody in America– I don’t care where you live– nobody in America can make it on $7.25 an hour, $9 an hour or $12 an hour,” said Sanders, I-Vermont.

Trump administration officials say they stand by what they call America’s booming economy, which recently added 228,000 jobs.
